Maman,
16mm & digital 4k, color, 16:9, french spoken, BE, 2025, 15’
Maman, is a poetic documentary in the form of a letter from a son to his mother. What begins as an attempt to tell her story, from how she, at the age of seven, moved from Likasi to Brussels and did not speak for a year to her lifelong dream of becoming a photographer, slowly transforms into something else. The film is built around her voice recorded as she reads the letter aloud for the first time. That single, intimate recording became the voice-over for the film. Visually the film combines a 16mm portrait with a digitally composed landscape, created by stitching together three separate video images into one horizon.
